Awards

This page is under construction

Honours, by the award of orders, decorations or medals are intended as a means of recognising service of outstanding merit beyond the normal demands of operational duty. During WW2 fifty-four honours were bestowed on men serving with 47 Royal Marine Commando. These ranged from the Distinguished Service Order and Military Cross (for officers) alongside the Distinguished Conduct Medal and Military Medal (for other ranks) to the humble, but equally important, Mention in Despatches for gallant or meritorious service. Research is currently being conducted to individually feature all of the fifty-four awards and will include the original recommendation and citation, a photograph of the recipient (if held) along with background information of the awards. Please contact the Chairman if you have any information, however small, that may be relevant to the research.
