Died of wounds 27 July 1944.
It was in fighting around Caen where Clifford was severely wounded by shell fire whilst guarding a bridge. He died the next day, 27th July 1944, aged just twenty and he lies in grave V1 B 9 in Douvres-La Delivrande War Cemetery, France. He is commemorated on the Lancaster City War Memorial.
