With their mother they had to escape nazi Germany but they did so rather late and he was interned in a 'German immigrants center' until 1942 when he and his brother opted for an English name and kept the letter F of their original name. Unfortunately they weren't able to select the same name so his brother became Charles Fraser (photographer).'the government thought they could use immigrants who volunteered to serve during the war.
